KEY POINTS FOR THE
PROPER STORAGE AND TRANSPORT OF VACCINES: ·Appoint
one person and a back-up to be responsible. ·Dedicate
a refrigerator to vaccine storage and emergency drugs ONLY. ·Monitor
refrigerator temperatures by placing a calibrated minimum/maximum thermometer
on the middle shelf. ·Check
and record the refrigerator temperature daily on the above chart. Alert
the Medical Practitioner with lead responsibility for immunisation if
the temperature is outside the range. ·Store
vaccines on the middle and upper shelves only. ·Use
only half the storage space for vaccines; fill the remaining space with
bottles of water to stabilise the temperature. ·Protect
power supplies to the refrigerator; ideally a switchless socket should
be used. ·Vaccines
must be transported in an insulated container with freezer packs or ice
but must be protected from direct contact with the freezer packs or ice
during transport. ·If
any vaccines are exposed to temperatures outside the 2-8 °C range contact
The Department of Health, Mrs L Gershon 0207-972-1430.
